Martin A. Heckscher graduated from Harvard College magna cum laude in 1956 and from Harvard Law School in 1959. Martin is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and was formerly a member of its Executive Committee and its Board of Regents. A former chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Probate and Trust Law Section, he was secretary to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's Orphans' Court Rules Committee from 1982 until 1992.
Martin's current practice consists of estate planning and trust and estate administration, with a special emphasis on fiduciary litigation. He is a nationally recognized authority on attorneys' fees and commissions in connection with the administration of trust and estates. Martin is also co-author, with partner Margaret Sager, of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Attorneys' Fees, Fiduciaries, Commissions, and Costs, the leading legal treatise on these issues related to trusts, estates, and guardianships in Pennsylvania. He frequently provides expert testimony in legal cases involving fiduciary matters.
Martin has been listed as one of the leading trusts and estates attorneys by the Best Lawyers in America, Town & Country, Philadelphia's Best Lawyers, and Philadelphia Magazine. He has also received the highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards from Martindale Hubbell.
His extensive civic service includes more than 20 years of board membership with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He is a former president of the Harvard University Alumni Association and has served as trustee of the Presser Foundation, the Lindback Foundation, and the Dolfinger-McMahon Foundation.
